The ROADS Foundation operates as a coordinating / management group, linking job-ready trainees with trainee-ready employers in the civil construction industry. We aim to utilise existing employment agencies, youth support agencies and programs that are available to assist young people in securing training and employment. The ROADS Foundation will value add to these services by working in collaboration to link young people into civil construction traineeships.
The ROADS Foundation delivers pre-employment training to young people interested in the civil construction industry, covering topics such as:
- Resume and Interview Preparation
- Information about the civil construction industry
- Career opportunities in the civil construction industry
- Employer expectations and your rights and responsibilities in the work place
Our Support Staff
The ROADS Trainee Support Coordinator prepares trainees to be ‘job-ready’ through:
- Sourcing trainees by collaborating with local employment and youth agencies assisting young people
- Providing young people with initial job-readiness training
- Linking them into the ROADS Mentor Network
- Monitoring traineeship to ensure successful completion
The ROADS Employer Support Coordinator prepares employers to be ‘trainee-ready’ through:
- Providing training and information to supervisors in managing trainees and the younger generations
- Providing training and information to employers in providing ‘on-the-job’ training
- Providing assistance in developing and completing training plans and other training requirements
- Providing information, support, and assistance to employers in administering trainees and sourcing Government rebates
Traineeship Opportunities
The ROADS Foundation is committed to supporting local youth and communities across the state of Western Australia. We have traineeship opportunities available in all areas and are recruiting NOW!
Traineeship streams available in the civil construction industry include, amongst others:
- Certificate II & III in Civil Construction (Bituminous Surfacing)
- Certificate II & III in Civil Construction
- Certificate III in Civil Construction (Bridge Construction and Maintenance)
- Certificate III in Civil Construction (Plant Operations)
- Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance)
Civil construction trainees will learn to:
- Use hand and power tools
- Use small plant equipment
- Read and interpret plans and specifications
- Operate elevated work platforms
- Carry out measurements and calculations
- Implement traffic management plans
- Direct traffic through the construction area
- Construct and dismantle fences and gates
- Compact, level and spread materials to form roads and footpaths
- Perform repairs to damaged surfaces
- Repair potholes

- Physically fit
- Good at manual work
- Able to work as part of a team
- Able to enjoy working outdoors
- Good communication skills
- Punctual and hard working
- Able to follow instructions
- A commitment to safe work procedures
- Ability to read and write
- Hold a C class drivers license
